Beautiful hand carved and polished stone death mask, made in Mexico, in the style of Aztec/Mayan design of death face masks. Very nice, very well made. Color appears to me to be a mottled brown.
Material: Stone : tests out on gemstone tester as nephrite. Marble also possible, as are other indigenous stones found in Mexico. Definitely a stone, not ceramic or glass.
SIZE: approximately 8.5” long, and about 8” inches wide across widest part of mask.
Weight: almost 2 pounds. (1 pound and 14 ounces).
Age: 20th/21st century, Replica of earlier pre-Columbian era style death masks,
CONDITION: used. Excellent in my opinion. No cracks. No ragged or jagged chips - all minor rough areas (back side of mask, around eyes - see photos) have been polished. This is simply a by-product of hand carving, polished, part of authentic hand carved polished stone process. No strings or rope. Please see pictures in photo gallery for detailed views.
