Description
Up for auction is a very old, hollow-carved, glasseye Drake Redhead made by Chris Smith, founder of the Chris Craft Boat company in Algonac, Michigan, ca. early 1900s. This early bird hasoriginal paint that has thinned over its 100+ years, down to the bare wood in some spots. The bill appears to have been repainted a very long time ago and exhibits craculature that enhances this decoy's character. There is also a bit of touch-up underneath the tail. Nice comb painting is still visible on the body. The wings and feather painting near the tail are just outstanding. If not original, very, very early. The decoy has a number of shot marks to the head and body. The deep bill carving on this one is just terrific. The decoy retains its original old glass eyes.
Measures 12-3/4” long; 6-1/4” wide; and 5-1/2” tall.
