    Guatemalan Folk Art Hand Carved Wood Mask. This wood mask represents the infamous Spanish Patron Conquerer, who under the command of Hernán Cortés, conquered native civilizations in Guatemala and Mexico. This caused the fall of the Aztec Empire in the early 16th century.

    The carved mask depicts the Spanish man with mustache and an exaggerated long straight nose. The entire face is bright red with heavy eyebrows and twisted jute or hair mustache. The mask is 7” wide x 9” tall x 6” deep. There is a wood crack along his chin (see photos).
